Continuous heavy rainfall has inundated several low-lying areas of Cox's Bazar district, severely disrupting normal life. Thousands of residents are facing hardship as floodwaters have entered roads, homes, and key public facilities. At the same time, the persistent rain has softened the soil in hilly areas, significantly increasing the risk of landslides.
According to the local administration, residents living in landslide-prone areas adjacent to hills have been urged to move to safer locations. Public announcements are being made through loudspeakers and other communication channels to raise awareness. The district administration, Fire Service, and other relevant agencies have been placed on standby to respond to any emergency.
Heavy rainfall has also disrupted road transportation in many parts of the district. Waterlogging has slowed traffic in several areas, while residents of low-lying communities remain confined to their homes. Many families are seeking safe shelter as flood conditions continue to worsen.
In Ukhiya, landslides have occurred in the Rohingya refugee camps following days of continuous rainfall, resulting in casualties and damage to property. Authorities have evacuated hundreds of people from high-risk slopes to safer locations, with preparations underway to relocate more residents if necessary.
Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the next few days. As a result, river water levels across Cox's Bazar and other parts of southeastern Bangladesh may rise rapidly, increasing the risk of flash floods and further landslides.
The district administration has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel to high-risk areas and to strictly follow official safety instructions. Residents have also been advised to contact the local administration and disaster management authorities in case of emergencies.
